Continental and ExpressJet were fined because they did not follow their own internal procedures and passenger commitments, and were ultimately responsible for the passengers' welfare. It was also announced that Pinnacle's other subsidiary, Colgan Air , would cease to exist, and Mesaba would inherit the Colgan fleet of Saab s and Bombardier Qs.

In time, all aircraft and personnel were transferred to Pinnacle Airlines. This codeshare service utilized Saab aircraft and replaced the service that was being operated by Colgan Air. Ultimately Colgan's Bombardier Q turboprops were never transferred to Mesaba as they were retired from service by United Express , whom they operated for on a code sharing basis on behalf of United Airlines , before the transition from Colgan to Mesaba took place.
