How do I scale it down, either from my ps2 or hdtv, so it fits normally on my tv? I recall people having this problem. User Info: terry terry 9 years ago 2 I suggest you to buy a component cable. Because no matter how many HD remasters they come out with, there's just way too many ps2 games in the library that will never see a remaster that I just can't bring myself to let go of. Gems that were lesser known and don't have the fanbase to push for one.
Obviously it wouldn't look as good as it would if it was remastered, but just to have it look as good as it does on a regular CRT set would be enough. I would kill for something like this. User Info: VeryDarkSoul VeryDarkSoul 4 years ago 3 the problem is that lcd tvs only look good on their native resolution, every other resolution looks blurry, the more expensive tvs have better upscalers though. What games did you all have for PS2 this time 20 years ago? What games are you playing and the great beyond. Any PS2 games able to reformat memory cards? Or maybe my odl sdtv was just a real flaming piece of crap ;-. Progressive scan games over component looked just fine though. If your progressive scan games look poor on your TV I don't know what can be done to help you. The PS3 deinterlaces all PS2 output over HDMI and component unless you remove p from the display options - and it does a pretty damned good job of it too.
With a PS2 however, your options are limited. I can't say that I've tried any progressive games yet. I had a very limited test of Katamari because I needed my fix. I'm pretty sure Namco didn't trick out Katamari with progressive. I'll try God of War 1 tonight. Thanks for the comments guys! Bung-foo, do you have any more information link? PS2 games are largely scaled down from the better versions on more capable systems. That means fewer polygons, lower resolution textures, fewer colours used, they trim a bit of fat here and there and before you know it, there you have something the PS2 can work with at a fast clip.
This improves a lot with progressive scan in games that support it, or when forced with XPloder or a Matrix Infinity chip, but it is not anything like a total difference and does not upgrade the lesser standards that the title was made with.
Do try God of War or any other title you have that enables progressive scan. You will have to actively enable it with each title, either by a button-press at boot or by setting a game menu somewhere. The PS3 doesn't do much to the PS2 games. Funny aside: My roommate non-techy usually doesn't comment on this sort of thing and I had played Soul Calibur 2 on the Wii, and then the next night decided to play Soul Calibur 3 on the PS3.
After playing for a few minutes he commented that he didn't like it as much and preferred the "newer one". I asked what he meant and he said the one on the Wii. I then had to explain to him that SC3 was the newer one, just that SC2 on the Wii looked better because the Gamecube was capable of better graphics than the PS2. He then got really confused because I had previously explained that the PS3 games look sharper than the Wii games because of the higher resolutions output to the HDTV. Now, if you are going to revisit the PlayStation 2, you might come across some troubles setting it up.
Fear not. We have compiled a list of troubleshooting methods that might come in handy. There are different cases when your PlayStation 2 creates problems. The problem might be with video and audio outputs, improper connection, etc. Instead, it uses two different video output modes: composite video with three different cables. They are red and white for audio and yellow video cables. So, you have to carefully check if your cables are plugged in properly or not. You might have to switch your output modes based on the system you are using.
There is no need to worry about this.
